What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a therapy which relaxes and revitalises the whole person, using an effective combination of oriental knowledge and eastern and western massage techniques.

What can I expect at my first session?

A full case history is taken before treatment begins. This takes the form of a simple series of questions regarding medical history, symptoms and life style. To receive a Shiatsu treatment you are recommended to wear comfortable loose fitting clothes. However, in the workplace, removal of restrictive items such as a tie is usually sufficient. It is best if you do not eat a heavy meal and to avoid alcohol, for a few hours before. During the treatment you remain fully clothed.

What treatments can I choose?

Bliss Backrub believes that each session should be tailor made for the clients and does not offer fixed routines. You may choose to receive your Shiatsu treatment in a specially designed chair or on a futon at floor level. Shiatsu involves the use of fingers, thumbs and the palm of the hand to apply pressure to particular points on the surface of the body. It can also involve gentle stretches and rotations.
